DeKalb County police officers will soon be able to start writing tickets for the city of Brookhaven.
On Wednesday, Brookhaven city officials will swear in current DeKalb County police officers who will be authorized to issue citations that will be legally recognized in the city’s new municipal court system.
The city will not have its own interim police force, as had been earlier reported on other media outlets.
“These officers will be able to write tickets that will appear in our municipal courts,” said Tisa Moore, spokesperson for the city. “They will have the power to issue citations that will be legally recognized in our municipal court system.”
In a recent update to residents, Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis said the city must first hire a permanent city manager before it can hire a police chief, who will then start building the new department.

How interesting. The man that spent a year disparaging DeKalb County Police is the very man that will swear them in. I guess they will do until we get our own dedicated revenue generators!

When can they start writing tickets for Brookhaven? The article just says they will soon be able to write tickets.
And what happens now if they stop some one for a driving violation? Are they able to write a DeKalb Ticket?

These officers can now write tickets immediately for any Brookhaven offenses that come under the jurisdiction of our new municipal court. They also will continue to write tickets for DeKalb County, as these remain DeKalb police officers. Earlier media reports that these officers will serve as Brookhaven's interim police force are inaccurate.

According to the Brookhaven Post the mayor authorized approximately 60 DeKalb Police to write tickets in Brookhaven and the story mentions another authorization of another group of officers at 10pm. My question was how many DeKalb officers did the mayor authorize for Brookhaven ? The proponents told us only 3 or 4 officers were working in Brookhaven at a time. This 60 plus officers that were authorized to work in Brookhaven suggests the county had far more working inside the foot print than we were led to believe. How will Brookhaven ever come close to matching this service level for police?

Mr. EGA, you might want to also ask these questions:
1 - The ticket books are printed and the ink dry? 2 - A Judge, solicitor, and court staff have been selected and are in place? 3 - Court is constructed and ready for session? 4 - Intergovernmental agreement with DeKalb is signed and in place?
If not, will court be held in Pub 71 and will Judge Roy Bean be Judge, solicitor, clerk and jury? And, will the bar close during court?
Bad location, I definitely would not be able to get the food concession there!
