Come Meet Neighbors and Patch at Brookhaven Chili Cook-off
Patch serves up community news daily, and today, we'll be serving up the best chili in Brookhaven!
In addition to serving up new tidbits of news about your community, Brookhaven Patch also serves a mean bowl of chili.
Don't believe me? Come to the inaugural Brookhaven Chili Cook-Off today and find out!
This event, which comes from the creators of the Brookhaven Beer Fest, takes place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at 2740 Apple Valley Road in the Warehouse District.
This free family-friendly festival features live music from Martay & The Partay and The Commitaphobics, a Go Cornhole tournament, Kid Zone, college football on TV, food from Brookhaven restaurants and Atlanta food trucks, along with cold beer from Red Hare Brewing Co. The chili-tasting begins at noon and ends at 3 p.m. at a cost of $5 a spoon.
A portion of the proceeds benefits the Brookhaven Arts Alliance.
Parking available at the Brookhaven MARTA station and in Apple Valley Drive warehouse lots. No outside food, drinks or coolers allowed. Leashed pets are allowed.

Just curious, was that five dollars per spoon of chili or five dollars for a spoon to sample as many chili’s being offered? The article was confusing.
What percentage of the proceeds went to the Brookhaven Arts Alliance? I know events have costs to stage, just curious as to how much the charity recipient was expected to receive on a percentage of revenue basis. Anyone know?
I understand there were several candidates running for office in the new city of Brookhaven that participated in this event. Did any of them have cooking skills to brag about?
Did anyone have the forethought to have a Beano station? Laugh if you must, but this is a very important consideration six to eight hours later . . .
Please pass the yellow mustard!

Hi HamBurger,
I apologize that the article was not clearer. It was $5 a spoon for unlimited tastings. I don't know how much of the proceeds went to BAA yet. Yes, city council candidate Julia Russo won second place in a certain category for her chili.

Curiously, one of my readers just informed me that one of the two chilis served by Ms. Bawcom tasted to be rather burned and was still served.
The reader further stated, if you serve a chili with a decidedly burned taste, what kind of a scorched (or, improperly vetted) government will you bestow upon us?
Question worthy of an answer Ms. Bawcom?

Your post is not worthy of any response, HamBurger. Read it again and try to imagine it as a post that contributes rather than cut down. So, now you are posting negative things about ANOTHER candidate.
When are you going to announce what District council seat you are running for, HamBurger?
I respect candidates that are upfront and transparent when they post. Why not join them and post under your candidacy?

Mr. Phil, the chili spoke for its self, yet it was still served. Think about it.
You do know that there are a few folks you would associate with Brookhaven Yes that are running for office and one that was not associated with Brookhaven Yes but is pro-city also running for office that participate on the Patch forums don’t you? One has a consistent name and others use multiple names. Just thought I would bring this to your attention . . .
But, that is OK, you are a strong supporter of Brookhaven Yes.
Man! Just smell that special hamburger!

Mr. Roger, the lady that relayed this story to me, a restaurateur, understands amateur competitions and finds it hard to be critical of anyone that competes in such events especially when they are for a good cause. However, two things that really bring out the critic in her are food safety and serving food with detectable flaws that should not be served. Let’s just say my comments were very kind compared to the ear load I received.
Please pass the yellow mustard!

And still you avoid answering the question...that is fine, HamBurger. You are running for council, but the question is which District. It is a question of character. If voters are not aware that you are so negative on the prospects of the city and your ethical failings in not being transparent about your candidacy on these boards, they are not being fully informed about what you stand for.
Which District are you running for? And if you are not running--just say you are not. You have lied here saying you have answered, but you have not.
Heaven help us if you are voted onto the council because voters do not know about your duplicity.
And it is not just me who is concerned about your lack of transparency in your candidacy.

Mr. Phil, I am not going to answer your question. I did that once before and you would not accept my answer and continued to harass me and the individual you maliciously mistook me for. You continued to manipulate our conversation to denigrate me. No thank you.
You are such an arrogant individual that you have no concern for your actions and how much harm you did to the individual you mistook me for.
Speaking of character, maybe you should take a look at yourself. Have you seriously considered professional help?
Please pass the yellow mustard!

If this was a boxing match, the referee would have called the bout off. Was is most interesting, Phil doesn't recognize it yet. He still thinks he's in the fight.

Hello everyone! Let's keep the conversation on the chili cook-off, which was tons of fun and had lots of great chili samples!
