Brookhaven Candidates Meet The Public

Here's a list of some of the public meetings that have been scheduled for coming weeks.

Brookhaven's two dozen candidates for public office have been out campaigning since qualifying, and more events are scheduled for coming weeks.

J. Max Davis held his mayoral campaign kickoff this past weekend, as did Deborah Anthony for her District 3 city council campaign. Another District 3 candidate, Hope Bawcom, is holding a Q&A session on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 6 pm in Brookhaven Park.

Anthony is also scheduled to speak to the Friends of Briarwood Park group on Oct 9 at the Briarwood Rec Center, while Bawcom is set to appear on Oct. 16. Davis was the first candidate to speak to the organization a few weeks ago.

According to the Reporter Newspapers, several other candidates are set to appear before Friends of Briarwood Park at 6:30 pm on the following dates:

  • Sept. 18 – Julia Russo, District 3 candidate
  • Sept. 25 – Russell Mitchell, District 2 candidate
  • Oct. 2 – Kevin Quirk, District 3 candidate

There is also a candidate forum for District 2 candidates on Thursday September 27th at 7pm at Ashford Park Elementary. I've not seen this published anywhere else yet but Russell Mitchell, candidate for district 2 has it on his Facebook page here...

Who are the candidates in District 2 besides Larry Hurst and Russell Mitchell? I thought there was a candidate that had filed and then withdrew.

Russell Mitchell, Jim Eyre and Larry Hurst. Russell was on the board of C4ND and Brookhaven Yes and has been a vocal proponent of the city. Jim was on the board of the NoCity campaign and was a vocal opponent of the city. Larry was not on either board to my knowledge but has publicly stated that he reluctantly voted for the city.

I'm curious - how many on here would vote for a candidate who "was on the board of the NoCity campaign and was a vocal opponent of the city"

Everyone if they are the best candidate. To spin that around, how many people on here know that 75% of the Districts in the Brookhaven footprint voted NO to cityhood? Particularly of interest - the area always known as Brookhaven? This is why the vote was so important to be held during the primary instead of the general election when most people vote.

I don't live in district 2 but I could see the usefulness of electing a No City member from either 2 or 3 - well as long as they don't end one of their answers at the forum with the line .... special pickles blah blah blah ... or start delving into certain foreign governments manipulating the city of Brookhaven vote.

Eric,
I think I agree with what you said...if it boiled down to the best candidate should be the representative of each respective district. Otherwise, if you didn't mean that...then the heck with you! :)
