Boyer Challenged By Another Republican

DeKalb's District 1 commissioner Elaine Boyer will face Larry Danese on July 31.

Republican incumbent Elaine Boyer will face opposition within her own party in the race for the District 1 seat on the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners.

Larry Danese will challenge Boyer in the July 31 primary, according to information from the DeKalb County election's office.

Danese served as Kathie Gannon's representative on the county's planning commission before challenging Boyer for the District 1 seat in 2008 as a Democrat.

Boyer won in the general election by a 59 to 41 percent margin.

Both candidates signed up for the partisan race through the county's Republican Party, according to the DeKalb County election's office.

The window to qualify for partisan and non-partisan races closed Friday at noon.

Boyer is not the only incumbent commissioner to face a challenge in the primary. Democrat CEO Burrell Ellis has two Democratic challengers. Jerome Edmondson and Gregory Adams will face Ellis in the primary.

Perhaps the most watched issues will be the regional transportation referendum (sometimes called TSPLOST) and the Brookhaven cityhood referendum.

Larry has posted here in the past and seems to have a good hold on the County problems with zoning, I wish him the best.

Since he ran for office as a Democrat in the past, the question becomes, what really is Larry Denease? Democrat, Republican, Liberatian, unprincipled?

He is definitely not unprincipled. While I have a problem with people who switch parties just after they are elected I don't have a problem with people running one time as a Democrat and another time as a Republican.
