Au Rendez-Vous Moves To Chamblee

So what do you think should go into the restaurant's old Brookhaven space on Windsor Parkway?

Au Rendez-Vous was one of the first businesses to move onto Windsor Parkway several years ago, when the area was just beginning a major economic transformation.

Now, however, their longtime home is vacant, as the establishment prepares to move into a new Chamblee location. The owners told Patch the new Au Rendez-Vous will be open in another two to three weeks.

So all of this begs the question: What do you think should go into the old Au Rendez-Vous spot on Windsor Parkway? Tell us in the comments.

About this column: A weekly look at vacant spaces in Brookhaven and Chamblee, and a discussion about what kinds of businesses would be ideal for that location. Related Topics: Small Business 2012 and Visions for Vacancies

If the interior of the space can be expanded, another restaurant would be nice to see at this location. But for the viability of the restaurant and the dynamics necessary, there needs to be more table tops.

I do not know about the zoning, but if they could get a license to serve beer and wine during dinner would be welcome.

Never ate there. How's the food? Looking forward to having another restaurant in the PDK/Chamblee area!

Thanks! That makes two good restaurants that have moved from Brookhaven to Chamblee in the past few years. We also got Marc Anthony's that used to be by the Brookhaven MARTA Station: http://www.yelp.com/biz/marc-anthonys-restaurant-atlanta-2

Across from Chamblee Library is very close to Brookhaven, the Ashford Park portion of Brookhaven. I've yet to eat there after all these years, I will try to get there now as I've always heard good things about it. Word of advice to the owners I've heard Chamblee can be difficult for permitting, I would recommend doing what tends to work in the City of Atlanta to break silly delays, contact the council person for the district and enlist their help if you run into an unreasonable delay.

How is Marc Anthonys doing at the new location? You have to know its there to realize there is an Italian place in that strip mall.

I have only been there a few times, but it seems to be doing well. I think they need to do a better job of marketing themselves. Like you said, you'd be lucky to see them if you just drive by.

Homes. That corner is zoned inappropriately and nothing commercial belongs in that residential area!

Melanie--that corner was zoned commercial for decades. That was not a recent zoning decision. And I must say that the random corners in Candler Park, Inman Park etc.( like where Sotto Sotto is located) that have long time shops and restaurants in those neighborhoods have contributed to the quaintness, IMO.

Phil - I see and understand your point - but personally feel that nothing about a dry cleaners, the big cement parking lot beside the space or the florescent sign is quaint. The space is not charming like the areas you're referring in Inman Park or Candler Park, and just seems out of place in my opinion. Perhaps if the corner were a bit larger to allow for a couple more establishments and had a look and feel that fit more in with the residential area, it might work. It is walking distance from my home, and we've been hoping the eye sore would go away for years. Plenty of people live in our area and both establishments are rarely busy - another indication that it does not fit in our area, and probably the reason for their move. I think it is safe to say that there are quite a few areas around the Atlanta that are oddly zoned. Again, all my personal opinion :)

Actually there used to be a nursery across the street where you could buy plants.

I agree on the quaintness. Being able to walk to a place to grab a bite to eat is a great amenity. The trick is not allowing drive thru windows, gas pumps or large retail structures into these lots that have historically been commercial.

It's excellent, the owners lived in Viet Nam during the French occupation; it's a marriage if both cuisines. At a loss as to what can go in space on Windsor. Has to be low key because it's residential and limited parking.

Went there, thought it was miserable and scarcely French. Ordered a bottle of wine and they brought it to me opened, with a cheap wine filling the bottle from the menu.

The food is great... More along they lines of country French. It was a great spot for a nice lunch with co-workers.

Folks brought their own bottles of wine for the establishment to serve them since they had no license to serve it from the menu.

When did the restaurant begin to serve their own wine selections?

Seriously? So many quaint areas in downtown Chamblee, and they move to Clairmont Road?

Debbie, despite what you may have heard, not all of Clairmont Road is bad. The spot where the restaurant is moving (4102 clairmont road, atlanta ga 30341) is diagonally across from the Chamblee Library and across from PDK. Since it's on the left (west) side of Clairmont, it will be in Brookhaven when Brookhaven becomes a city. It's a good area and will get better when the southern half of PDK and the rest of the Dresden East neighborhoods (hopefully) annex into Chamblee.

I don't think she was saying Clairmont Road is bad, just that it is lacking character. Its a four lane road after all.

By the way that both sides of Clairmont are in Chamblee until you get to 8th street and Airport Road (the PDK main entrance) so it will be in Chamblee.

DebbieN. It was probably a function of the lease rate and parking.

Title Pawn, Gun Shop, Liquor store. Many places that could operate out of that small space.....

Please note that Au Rendezvous has indeed moved to Chamblee -- on Clairmont Road across from the Chamblee library. They now take credit cards, and they have a beer and wine license, so no more brown bagging! And the food is better than ever. Bon appetit!

The food is bad and the service is also terrible. Save yourself the trip.

I went there once. It was a depressing atmosphere and the food was only mediocre--more Vietnamese than French--what I call "a hole in the wall." I like a little atmosphere, even if it is only clean and decorated nicely, even if inexpensively decorated. The atmosphere kept me from returning even more than the food. If one wants French, go to Violette's for lunch or dinner (on Clairmont),even if you pay a little more. Violette's daily luncheon special is delicious and inexpensive. You also won't find a more beautiful place to lunch--whether inside the main restaurant, in their sunroom, or on the patio.
