Murphey Candler Girls Softball Association Registration and Opening Day

Brookhaven, GA – Only two weeks remain of registration for the 45^th season of fastpitch softball at Murphey Candler, Atlanta’s premier fastpitch softball organization. Registration for leagues in 6u, 8u, 10u, 12u and 18u will close on January 27^th with spring training following shortly afterwards on February 2^nd. Opening Day is scheduled for the fields of Murphey Candler Park on March 2.

Looking Forward

Last season’s Field 5 renovation was the beginning of an ambitious plan by the board of MCGSA to make improvements to the park and enhance the experiences of the families that support the players on the field. With the continued support of corporations, local business partners and individual family donors, MCGSA has raised the necessary capital to build shade structures at each of the fields to cover the bleachers and protect visitors from the sun and heat. Shade structures are scheduled to be installed in time for this spring season and will bring much needed relief from the end of the season heat.

Murphey Candler Girls’ Softball Association (MCGSA) introduced girl’s fastpitch softball to Atlanta in 1968. For over 40 years the Murphey Candler Girls Softball Association has been Atlanta’s premier softball league and has grown every season for the past five years. The league has grown by 30% alone this past year. Murphey Candler Girls Softball maintains modest fees to cover the costs of running the program. The board of the association and its auxiliary are made up entirely of volunteer members and coaches that work year round planning and running softball programs for the Spring and Fall. Each year the board sets aside donations from local businesses, corporate sponsors and individual families as reserves – to be put to use making improvements around the park or for funding scholarships for girls that want to play but don’t have the financial means to do so.
